Finding strength to walk faithfully, even when the crowd walks the other way

On my journey of faith over the years, like many people walking their own path with God, I have discovered something important about courage.

It’s one of those words we hear often, but when you really stop and think about it, a good question rises to the surface: What is courage, really?

A verse from the Bible has always stood out to me when I think about that question:

“Be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid or discouraged, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”
— Joshua 1:9

There is something powerful in those words. They remind us that courage does not come from ourselves alone. It comes from knowing who walks with us.

Over the years I have learned that taking a stand is not always easy. In fact, many times it can feel very uncomfortable. Standing against the popular opinion or the majority requires a kind of strength that most people struggle with. Not because they are bad people, but because they are human.

Most of us don’t like rejection.
We don’t like being misunderstood.
We don’t like feeling like we are the only one standing in a certain place.

Fear has a way of whispering, “Just go along with everyone else.”

And many people do.

But history shows us something interesting. It is often the small group of courageous people — the ones willing to swim upstream — who end up changing the world for the better.

They are the ones who refuse to compromise what they believe is right.
They are the ones who quietly stand their ground when everyone else is moving the other direction.

That kind of courage does not come from pride.
It comes from conviction.

And for those of us walking a path of faith, that conviction should always point back to the Lord.

If we are going to risk something…
If we are going to stand up…
If we are going to challenge the current of the world around us…

Then it should always be done in His name and for His purpose.

Because when courage is rooted in faith, it becomes something much more powerful than simple bravery. It becomes trust.

Trust that God sees.
Trust that God leads.
Trust that God is present, even when the road feels lonely.

With Him, courageous people can accomplish far more than they ever imagined.

Just a thought I was pondering this morning.
