The Knower Within”

“What Is Your Calling?”

There is a stirring that many believers feel deep within themselves. It is difficult to explain, yet impossible to ignore. Some call it intuition. Others call it conviction. But in the life of a believer, it may simply be the voice of God quietly leading them toward their calling.

In the New Testament, the Apostle Paul speaks about what many know as the Five Fold Ministry. Found in The Holy Bible, scripture says:

“And He gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers;
For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ.”

The Five Fold Ministry was never meant to elevate certain people above others. Rather, it was given to strengthen the body of Christ. Every believer fits somewhere. Every believer carries purpose. Every believer has been given something by God that the world desperately needs.

The question becomes:
What is your calling?

The Inner Knowing

There are moments in life when a person simply “knows.”

They know they should speak.
They know they should encourage.
They know they should pray.
They know they should lead.
They know they should teach.

Even when it makes no sense naturally, there remains a deep stirring inside that refuses to go away.

Some call this “their knower.”

It is that inward witness that continues to whisper:

  • “There is more.”
  • “You were made for something.”
  • “You cannot stay silent forever.”

Many people spend years running from what they already know deep down. Fear, insecurity, comparison, and doubt often keep believers from stepping into what God has called them to become.

But eventually, every believer arrives at the same crossroads:

Will they obey?

Calling often begins with simple obedience.

The Apostle

The apostolic calling carries vision, movement, and spiritual building.

An apostle often feels burdened to start something, pioneer something, or establish something for the Kingdom of God. They are builders at heart. They see beyond what exists presently and often carry a deep desire to awaken and equip others.

The apostolic voice says:

“There is more ground to take.”

Apostolic people often feel restless staying comfortable for too long. Their heart burns for expansion, missions, revival, and laying foundations that help others grow.

The Prophet

The prophet senses things deeply.

Prophetic people often discern spiritual atmospheres before others do. They carry a burden for holiness, truth, repentance, and hearing the voice of God clearly. At times, they may feel misunderstood because they see beyond surface appearances.

The prophetic voice says:

“Return to God. Hear what the Spirit is saying.”

Prophets are not merely predictors of future events. In scripture, prophets were awakeners. They called people back to God when hearts became cold and spiritually dry.

Much like the prophet Ezekiel standing before dry bones, prophetic voices today are still crying out:

“Can these bones live again?”

And the answer is still yes.

The Evangelist

The evangelist burns with urgency for souls.

They are deeply burdened for people who do not know Christ. Evangelists often find themselves speaking hope to strangers, encouraging others publicly, or feeling compelled to share the Gospel wherever they go.

The evangelistic voice says:

“People need Jesus.”

There is a fire inside them that cannot stay quiet for long. Even in ordinary conversations, they naturally point people toward hope, redemption, and salvation.

The Pastor

The pastor carries the heart of a shepherd.

Pastoral people are protectors, encouragers, and caretakers. They notice hurting people. They check on people others overlook. They desire to restore, comfort, and guide others gently through life.

The pastoral voice says:

“How is your soul?”

Pastors often carry compassion deeply. They feel the weight of people’s struggles and desire to see others healed, strengthened, and spiritually healthy.

The Teacher

Teachers long to bring understanding.

They hunger for scripture, wisdom, and truth. They desire clarity. Teachers help others understand the Word of God in ways that build strong foundations.

The teaching voice says:

“Let us grow deeper.”

Teachers help believers move beyond emotional Christianity into spiritual maturity. They bring stability to the body of Christ through truth and understanding.

Every Part Matters

Not everyone will stand behind a pulpit.
Not everyone will travel nations.
Not everyone will preach to crowds.

Yet every calling matters.

The body of Christ was never designed for one person to do everything. It functions together. Just as the human body has many parts working together, so does the church.

Some are called to speak boldly.
Some are called to pray quietly.
Some are called to lead publicly.
Some are called to encourage privately.

But all are called to obedience.

The Real Question

Perhaps the greatest tragedy is not failure.

Perhaps the greatest tragedy is ignoring the voice of God for so long that eventually it becomes easier to silence it than obey it.

Deep down, many people already know what God has been speaking to them.

They know in their “knower.”

The issue is rarely revelation.
The issue is usually surrender.

Final Thoughts

The Five Fold Ministry is not about titles.
It is about function.
It is about purpose.
It is about obedience.

God is still calling people today:

  • Apostles to build
  • Prophets to awaken
  • Evangelists to reach
  • Pastors to shepherd
  • Teachers to disciple

The world is desperate for believers who will finally say yes to what God placed inside them long ago.

And perhaps the question every believer must eventually answer is this:

What has God been whispering to your heart all along?
