Allow the Healing to Run Its Course

There is a lesson that seems to find Alex over and over again.

Healing has never been something that can be rushed.

After his recent heart surgery, he found himself wrestling with the same old temptation. His mind was already looking ahead—to the work waiting to be done, the stories yet to be written, the people he wanted to encourage, and the life he was eager to get back to. The desire to reclaim normalcy was strong.

But the body had a different timeline.

More than once, he caught himself trying to will the healing process to move faster. Surely if he pushed just a little harder, walked a little farther, or ignored the fatigue, he could shave days or weeks off the recovery.

It didn’t work.

Instead, the soreness lingered. The exhaustion deepened. His body reminded him that healing isn’t impressed by ambition or deadlines. It follows its own quiet rhythm.

The lesson was simple, even if it wasn’t easy.

Allow the healing to run its course.

Those words have become more than advice. They’ve become a daily reminder that recovery isn’t a race. It’s an invitation to slow down, to listen, and to trust that every day—whether it feels productive or not—is still a step forward.

There is wisdom in rest.

There is strength in patience.

There is courage in admitting that today may simply be a day for healing.

Looking back, Alex realizes that every major challenge in life has taught him the same truth. Whether recovering from serious illness, walking through grief after losing loved ones, or now beginning life after heart surgery, the process cannot be forced. Some things only time, grace, and God’s gentle hand can accomplish.

Perhaps that’s where real faith is found—not in demanding immediate answers, but in trusting the One who is doing the healing, even when progress feels slow.

So today, he’ll take another walk if his body allows. He’ll rest when it asks. He’ll write when inspiration comes. And he’ll give himself permission to recover without guilt.

Because healing is happening, even on the days it cannot be seen.

“He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.”Psalm 147:3

Sometimes the bravest thing we can do isn’t to push harder.

Sometimes it’s simply to be patient… and allow the healing to run its course.
