About Alexander H. Atkinson Jr.
Alexander H. Atkinson Jr. was born in Mt. Edgecumbe and raised in Metlakatla, Alaska, a community that has always been home.
He is the son of Alexander H. Atkinson Sr. and Roberta Hudson-Atkinson. His paternal grandparents were Harris and Elizabeth Atkinson, and his maternal grandparents were Harold and Miriam Hudson. Both of his parents were born in Metlakatla, connecting Alexander and his family deeply to the community and its history.
After growing up in Metlakatla, Alexander stepped into the working world and eventually found his way into aviation. His career took him across the country, giving him the opportunity to see many places and experience many different communities.
Today, he has come home.
Alexander is now dedicating his time, experience, and energy to giving back to the community that raised him. Through the Metlakatla Heritage Foundation, he hopes to help preserve the stories, history, culture, places, and memories of Metlakatla for future generations.
For Alexander, this work is more than a project. It is a way of coming home and giving back to the place that gave him his start.
